Build Climate Leadership in Florida
Florida is already experiencing the impacts of a changing climate, from extreme heat and stronger storms to growing threats to our health, homes, and communities. At the same time, communities across the state have opportunities to prepare, build resilience, and create a healthier future.
The Florida Climate Ambassador Training is a free, self-paced online training designed to help Floridians turn climate concern into meaningful action. It includes the complete Climate Ambassador Training, plus additional Florida-focused content that connects what you learn to the challenges, solutions, and opportunities in your own community.
You don’t need to be a climate expert to become a Climate Ambassador. Your experience, your connection to your community, and your desire to make a difference are where climate leadership starts. You’ll gain trusted climate information, practical communication strategies grounded in shared Florida values, and ongoing support to help your community prepare for climate challenges and take meaningful action.
What You’ll Learn
By the end of this training, you will be able to:
- Connect climate change to your local community by identifying its impacts on the people, infrastructure, and nature in your town or city.
- Describe who is most impacted, exploring how climate change affects people and communities in different ways and how solutions can create a more just and equitable community.
- Communicate effectively on climate change through an evidence-based approach that connects with people’s values and lived experiences.
- Recognize warning signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, learn how to protect yourself and others, and know what Floridians are most vulnerable to heat risk to be able to approach solutions through an equity-lens.
- Implement climate solutions in your home, workplace, and community that benefit our health, communities, and quality of life.
- Identify Florida-specific opportunities to prepare for and respond to heat-related risks, and explore community resilience strategies that help protect people and strengthen communities.
- Use your voice as a Climate Ambassador to inspire climate action in your neighborhood, workplace, organization, congregation, and community.
Take It On Your Own or Bring People Together
There are two ways to participate.
Take the Training On Your Own
Complete the free training online, on your own time and at your own pace. You’ll receive the full Climate Ambassador Training along with the additional Florida-focused content.
Host a Group Training
Climate action grows when people learn and act together. Bring the training to your neighborhood, organization, workplace, congregation, or community. ecoAmerica provides resources and support to make it easier to organize and lead a group training.
Hosts receive:
- Training and facilitation materials
- A Florida Climate Ambassador activation kit with resources participants can use to take action
- Support from ecoAmerica
- A host stipend after completing the training and reporting requirements

Available in English and Spanish
The Climate Ambassador Training is also available fully in Spanish, with culturally adapted content and Spanish-language presenters and resources. The Florida initiative is intentionally designed to expand access for Spanish-speaking communities across the state.
