Unprecedented Coalition of National Leaders Unite for More Ambitious and Just Climate Solutions
A Call for Halving Emissions Each Decade, Restoring Nature, and Correcting Inequities
Today, over 100 national leaders and organizations announced a new call for ambitious and just climate action. The goal of the MomentUs campaign is to ensure that climate change is an election and post-election priority in the US. It demonstrates extensive public support for determinant climate policy from a broad diversity of constituencies inclusive of but well beyond the established environmental movement. Charter signatories include a new coalition of leaders from health, faith, civic, governmental, business, education, cultural, and environmental organizations.
MomentUs invites sign-ons from individuals and organizations who want ambitious and equitable local, regional and national climate solutions in the United States. It calls for halving US carbon emissions each decade forward and removing carbon pollution from the atmosphere; restoring thriving natural systems such as natural areas, waters, and agricultural lands; and prioritizing justice and equity to include, protect and support all Americans including correcting racial, cultural, and economic inequities and injustices.
“We can implement climate solutions that minimize impacts, address health, racial and economic inequities, and build our communities and economy back stronger than ever. We need the greater ambition envisioned in the Paris Accords, and we all have to be a part of it,” said Bob Perkowitz, President and Founder of ecoAmerica, the organization coordinating MomentUs. “MomentUs is not just a call for bold action, it’s a commitment to be part of the solution, starting now. It’s time to join and spread the word.”
MomentUs signatories affirm the public statement, support it with action and agree to be listed in communications to national, state, and local policymakers and the public. Signatories will be provided updates on the campaign’s progress, granted access to resources and events, and welcomed into a network of collaboration and collective impact.
