Next spring is your chance for recognition, reward, and national honors at the 2020 American Climate Leadership Summit (ACLS 2020) on March 25, 2020 in Washington DC. This year’s summit will host the American Climate Leadership Awards, which will recognize individuals and local and national organizations for their demonstrated success in  mobilizing public support and political will on climate amongst key constituencies, providing $155,000 in cash awards to help accelerate the replication of  important climate action nationwide. The awards welcome entries from community, faith, health and youth organizations and leaders (or those who engage these constituencies) on the local, regional and national scale.

 Over $150,000 in CASH AWARDS

Over $150,000 will be awarded to 10 winning leaders and organizations at a special American Climate Leadership Awards Gala at ACLS 2020 on March 25th in Washington, DC. Winners will have implemented a climate program that has made a significant difference in their sector in mobilizing public support and political will among their constituents, getting them to take climate action with urgency. Applications will be evaluated based on demonstrated, successful public impact within their organization and communities, including increased awareness and activation of people in climate mitigation and public policy advocacy.  Innovation, effectiveness, and replicability will be key considerations. Qualifying programs will embed equity, diversity, and inclusion.

APPLY BY OCTOBER 31, 2019

Applicants are invited to submit Preliminary Submissions between September 1 and October 31, 2019. On December 1, 2019, Qualifying Submissions will be selected and notified. On February 1, 2020, Final proposals are due. Ten finalists, each receiving $10,000 plus travel and event expenses for two people, will be notified by March 1, 2020 and expected to attend ACLS 2020.  The winner and runner-up, who will be awarded $50,000 and $25,000 total respectively, will be announced live during the awards ceremony at the Gala. The awardees will also be featured in the ACLS 2020 Recommendations Report and publicized to national press and ecoAmerica’s Network and partners. 

PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS COMMITTEE 

Director of the Center for Climate, Health, & the Global Environment at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Former EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy will preside over the awards ceremony and committee, comprised of eight luminaries in climate action, including climate hero Gus Speth, American Public Health Association Executive Director Dr. Georges Benjamin, Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities President Dr. Antonio Flores, Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski, Zero Hour Founder Jamie Margolin, To Nizhoni An Executive Director Nicole Horseherder, The Climate Mobilization Founder and Executive Director Margaret Klein Salamon, and African Methodist Episcopal Church Bishop Vashti McKenzie.
