ecoAmerica is pleased to announce the semifinalists for The 2024 American Climate Leadership Awards (ACLA). This year’s group includes advocates, faith leaders, organizers, moms, youth, healthcare professionals, elders, educators, frontline community leaders, and journalists of color who have all been effective in broadening participation in climate action locally, in their states, or nationally.

The following ACLA Semifinalists (in alphabetical order) were selected from more than 100 applications, and represent all five regions in the United States. Each will take home $1,000 and move to the next round of judging.  You can read more about their remarkable work HERE.

From these semifinalists, the ACLA judges will select ten finalists, including a runner-up and winner, which will be announced during the online ACLA awards broadcast on April 3rd from Washington, DC. The finalists will each receive $10,000, with the runner-up receiving $25,000 and the winner $50,000.

The 2024 selection committee includes Chris Barnard, President of American Conservation Coalition; The Rev. Canon Stephanie Spellers of the Episcopal Church, Chip Giller, Founder of Grist; Maddy Kohlberg, MBA Candidate, NYU Stern School of Business; International environmental advocate and eco-living expert Laura Turner Seydel; and Geof Rochester of GRC Advising. Environmentalist and Third Act founder Bill McKibben is chairing the Committee for the third year.

The judges all agree that what makes this 5th year of ACLA different is that all of the applicants are inspiring the American public, in different ways, to act on climate in the midst of accelerating climate impacts nationwide and 2023 being named the hottest year recorded on Earth.

The American Climate Leadership Awards showcases meaningful climate action at the local, regional, and national levels so others may learn from — and model — these solutions.

This year, for the first year, the American Climate Leadership Awards launched a high school program to award $125,000 in prizes for individuals and initiatives with proven success broadening local participation in building public engagement and/or political will for climate action, advocacy, preparedness, or resilience.
