Piper Christian, American Climate Leadership Awards Finalist
Piper Christian was among 10 American Climate Leadership Award finalists recognized at the American Climate Leadership Awards Virtual Ceremony on March 25.
After attending the COP21 UNFCCC Paris Climate Conference as a youth journalist, Piper returned to Utah and founded the Logan Environmental Action Force within her high school. This student group introduced and led the statewide campaign to pass HCR 7 through the Utah Legislature. This resolution resulted in unprecedented environmental dialogue and action to address climate change within Utah. Piper was a lead student organizer and public spokesperson, allowing for success from start to finish of this remarkable advocacy campaign.
“If a grassroots, youth-led initiative can convince a fossil-fuel dependent state to recognize climate change, then I firmly believe our model is replicable nationwide”, says Piper.
Join us at the rescheduled American Climate Leadership Summit 2020 (ACLS 2020) August 26-27 in Washington, DC, when we will honor Piper and the other ACLA finalists in person. For more information about the ACLA finalists and ACLS 2020 go to acls2020.org and Register Today.
