The Environmental Justice movement is said to have begun in 1982 when African American communities in NC protested the state’s decision to move truckloads of toxic PCB-laden soil to their neighborhoods. Environmental and climate justice continue to be an issue as more communities of color realize the disproportionate climate and pollution impacts they suffer.
