Amazon Employees for Climate Justice, American Climate Leadership Awards 2023 Finalist

Amazon Employees for Climate Justice (AECJ) is among 10 American Climate Leadership Award finalists to be recognized at the American Climate Leadership Awards Ceremony on March 30 during the live broadcast.

AECJ organizes for climate justice, building worker power to demand transformative change where they work.

AECJ began when a few Amazon employees discovered common feelings: deep despair about the climate crisis coupled with disappointment that our employer wasn’t stepping up. Further research confirmed that Amazon lagged behind other companies in climate action, and there was an opportunity to shift entire industries if Amazon changed its ways.

Amazon employees for Climate Justice began by building relationships, finding organizing mentors, sharing draft action plans and sign-on letters with early supporters, fine-tuning by learning what motivates workers and what holds them back from signing-on, testing viability with smaller actions, and finally escalating to large-scale public events, winning company-wide concessions.
