Bay Area Youth Climate Summit is among 10 American Climate Leadership Award finalists to be recognized at the American Climate Leadership Awards Broadcast on April 16.

The Bay Area Youth Climate Summit (BAYCS) is a place-based, by youth, for youth organization of 28 high school student-organizers fighting for scalable, grassroots climate solutions rooted in race and class. Their mission is to revolutionize climate education to be multidisciplinary, action-oriented, and accessible.

Their youth council, split into sub-teams, organizes free programming. They host annual summits, monthly workshops, actions, teacher trainings, and Climate Action Plan programs in schools. Advocacy campaigns like Vote16 with the Mayor’s San Francisco Youth Commission bridge curriculum with policy. Guided by the belief that you don’t have to be an “activist” to fight the climate crisis, they partner with 40+ organizations focused on labor, health, unions, business, art, and food. To date, they’ve organized 9,000+ Bay Area students from 250+ schools through 110+ workshops, 5 summits, 468 Instagram posts, and 50+ newsletters.
