A New Path Forward on Climate

For those of us who care about climate change and the myriad of issues affecting the most vulnerable among us, the election results were devastating. We’ve just gotten America on the path to solutions and now the hope and prospects to keep America and the world safe, thriving and healthy will be trampled on.

For those of us who care about climate change and the myriad of issues affecting the most vulnerable among us, the election results were devastating. We’ve just gotten America on the path to solutions and now the hope and prospects to keep America and the world safe, thriving and healthy will be trampled on. This problem is bigger than climate change. Yet, climate change will be the dominant driver of well-being in our futures.

It’s time to care for each other and steady ourselves for the road ahead. Because rather than more of the same, we need a new focus for the climate movement. And this requires all of us, and more.

The climate movement was built on the critical need for technical solutions and succeeded.  We have solutions on the shelf now! What the climate movement has not yet recognized is the need for public support and political will to move society toward these solutions.

We’re never going to be able to compete with the resources and mendacity of the fossil fuel industry and its supporters by sticking with the climate strategies in place for over a decade. Instead, we need to authentically connect with people where they live, work, play, and pray. We need to help people understand how climate connects with the things they care about and that we all can make a difference. And, importantly, we need to invite a broader diversity of our neighbors into accessible action that will benefit their lives and livelihood.

In short, we need to build bridges with Americans that don’t see themselves as part of the climate movement (now). We can do this! Especially if we work together.

For 2025 ecoAmerica is elevating support for our partners in their work to engage people across the nation in effective climate action. We will focus on local and state work over the next four years for our best chances of success despite the current headwinds. More to follow soon…

In the meantime, take time to connect with your loved ones, with nature, with the things in your life that ground you and bring you peace.
