City of Ann Arbor, American Climate Leadership Awards 2021 Finalist

City of Ann Arbor are among 10 American Climate Leadership Award finalists to be recognized at the American Climate Leadership Summit 2021 (ACLS 2021) on April 27 during the live broadcast.

In 2019, Ann Arbor City Council unanimously adopted a Climate Emergency Declaration. In this declaration, the City committed to a March 2020 deadline for the development of a plan aimed at achieving a just transition to community-wide carbon neutrality by 2030. Adopted on June 1, 2020, A2Zero aims to address four sectors, including energy, mobility, resource reduction and adaptation and resilience. The initiative plans to encourage the transition to renewable energy, design a zero-carbon transportation network and minimize waste, among other actions.

In less than a year, they have:  

  • Secured over 75 community partners;
  • Facilitated1 MW of new residential solar through Ann Arbor Solarize;  
  • Adopted an Electric Vehicle Readiness Ordinance; 
  • Launched ourA2ZERO Ambassadors program; 
  • Installed their first resilience hub at a local community center; 
  • Replaced 20 city vehicles with electric; including two in our police department; and  
  • Installed four fast chargers, among other outcomes.
